This Kings Wild Project deck, illustrated by Jackson Robinson, was released in 2022 as part of Kings Wild Shorts, the publisher’s subscription series. Its theme is Shakespeare’s tragedy and it exists in two versions: this standard edition and a limited edition with Spanish-suited pips.

Design

The hand-inked, double-headed court cards depict the characters of the play. The Kings are Romeo Montague (Hearts), Lord Capulet (Spades), Lord Montague (Diamonds) and Friar Laurence (Clubs); the Queens are Juliet Capulet, Lady Capulet, Lady Montague and the Nurse; and the Jacks are Mercutio, Count Paris, Benvolio and Tybalt. The two jokers show a vial of poison and a dagger, the objects the lovers use in the final act. The number cards keep the classic pips, and the black back carries a symmetrical seal. The tuck box of this edition is white with foil (metallic stamping). It also includes a card with the prologue and motto cards.
