3x3 cubes: the one everybody means

The 3x3 is the cube. It is what people picture when they say «Rubik's cube», it is the headline WCA event, and it is where almost everyone starts. This category holds 37 models in real stock, from €3.99 to €89.99.

The brands here are QiYi, MoYu, GAN, MoreTry, Ziina and YuXin. Between them they cover the whole road: from the €4 cube you learn on to the one that turns up in championship finals.

Why one 3x3 costs €4 and another costs €90

Everybody asks this and almost nobody answers it. From the outside they are both a coloured cube. The entire difference is inside.

  • €4 to €10 — beginner. Decent plastic, ordinary springs, no magnets. It turns well and survives the learning curve. The QiYi Warrior S is the archetype: hundreds of thousands of people learned on one.
  • €12 to €25 — mid-range magnetic. Magnets arrive here, and you feel the jump on the very first turn: each layer settles itself and the overshoots stop. The MoYu RS3M and the QiYi Warrior M UV are the workhorses of this band.
  • €30 to €55 — high end. Adjustable ball-core, UV coating and tunable tension. The MoYu WeiLong V11 lives here, with twenty magnets and a spherical core.
  • €60 to €90 — competition. MagLev systems that replace springs with magnetic repulsion, and up to 136 magnets in the GAN 16 MagLev MAX M. At this level everything is adjustable: tension, elasticity, magnet strength, even magnet position.

In practical terms: under €10 you learn, between €12 and €25 you genuinely get faster, and above €60 you are buying tenths of a second that only matter if you compete.

What is MagLev, and why does it cost more?

A normal cube uses springs to push each piece outward. A MagLev cube replaces those springs with opposing magnets that repel each other. The result is a quieter, more consistent turn without the spring «bounce» at the end of a move. It is high-end technology, which is why it shows up in the GAN V100 family and the WeiLong MagLev line.

And «triple magnetic»?

High-end cubes carry magnets between corner and edge pieces. A triple magnetic system like the one in the MoreTry Tianma X3 V3 adds further magnet sets to fine-tune how each layer behaves. It is a refinement for someone who already knows exactly what feel they are chasing.

Stickerless or stickered?

Practically everything we sell in 3x3 is stickerless: the colour is in the plastic and it never peels. A few stickered models remain for people who prefer the classic black body, but if you are unsure, go stickerless.

QiYi

Thirteen models in this category. The Warrior series owns the beginner and mid-range magnetic space, and the Void (no centre pieces) is one of the most curious 3x3s you can buy.

MoYu

Nine models. The RS3M is arguably the best value 3x3 on the market, and the WeiLong V11 is MoYu's high-end answer.

GAN

Four models, all high end. The V100 family and the 16 MagLev MAX M are the cubes on most international podiums.

Frequently asked questions about 3x3 cubes

Which 3x3 is best to start with?

A stickerless beginner model under €10. You do not need magnets to learn the layer-by-layer method; you need a cube that turns without catching. If it sticks, the later jump to a €15 magnetic feels far bigger than starting on an expensive one.

Is a magnetic 3x3 worth it?

If you can already solve the cube, yes, and it is the best upgrade you can buy. If you are still learning, no: magnets will not teach you the algorithms.

How long does a beginner take to solve it?

With the layer method, an afternoon to understand it and a week or two to do it without checking the guide. Going under a minute comes with practice. Our step by step is in how to solve a Rubik's cube.

What size is a 3x3?

The current standard is around 55-56 mm per side. That is what nearly everyone competes with because it suits an average hand. We also stock mini keychain formats.

Can I compete with any of these?

Yes. They all meet WCA regulations, which essentially forbid markings or textures that would give an advantage. What changes between them is speed and adjustability, not legality.
