3x3 Cubes

The 3x3 is the cube by definition and the main event in WCA competitions. It is also the one almost everyone pictures when they say Rubik's cube. Here you will find models made for beginners (more affordable, with looser and more forgiving mechanisms) as well as magnetic speedcubes and flagship models aimed at competition times.

Current 3x3 cubes usually measure between 54 and 57 mm, use magnets in the pieces to stabilise the turn, and many offer adjustable tension and springs. Some add a UV coated finish (a matte anti-fingerprint surface) or ball-core / MagLev core systems. Stickerless cubes carry the colours in the plastic itself; stickered ones use adhesive stickers.

If you are just starting out, a 3x3 is a good place to begin, followed by the 2x2 as a pocket puzzle and the 4x4 as your first step into the NxN world. For variety, look at the Pyraminx and Skewb, mechanically different but quick to learn.
