Premium playing cards: luxury editions for exceptional decks
Premium playing cards are far more than a playing deck — they are collectible pieces, gifts for enthusiasts and design objects worth keeping on display. At The Joker House we curate only decks with special finishes (metallic foiling, embossing, hot stamping, laser cutouts), tuck boxes worked inside and out, and designs that combine high-level graphic art with the technical quality any magician or cardist demands.
What makes a deck "premium"
A great design alone isn't enough. A premium deck combines at least two or three of these elements:
- Superior materials: thick paper (310 gsm or more) with pro finish (Air-cushion, Magic Finish, Cardistry Stock, B9). Printed by USPCC, Cartamundi or LPCC.
- Special tuck box finishes: foiling (gold, silver, copper, holographic), dry-stamped embossing, hot stamping, laser cuts revealing inner layers, printing on the inside of the tuck box.
- Artistic design: original artwork by an identifiable artist (not generic template), careful typography, coherent aesthetic across all 52 cards.
- Unique details: cards with colored edges (gilded edges in gold, silver, red etc.), magnetic tuck box, wax seal, certificate of authenticity.
- Controlled run: even if not strictly collectible, a premium usually has a print run of 2,500–10,000 units (not millions like a standard Bicycle).
How to choose your premium deck
- For gifts: look for visible foiling and recognizable themes (mythology, vintage casino, nature, classical art). The "wow" on opening matters most. Theory11 Monarchs and Artisans are safe bets.
- For real use (cardistry/magic): prioritize decks printed by USPCC or Cartamundi on cardistry or magic stock. A Theory11 Artisans outlasts a handcrafted premium with rare stock.
- For collecting: check the print run and whether it's numbered — small-run premiums hold value best. Also browse our collectible decks where rarity is the main factor.
- If in doubt: a black or blue Theory11 Monarchs is the safe choice. The world's best-selling premium deck, loved by everyone, used for everything.

FAQ about premium decks
Difference between premium and collectible deck?
A premium is defined by quality and finish (may have been printed in thousands of identical units). A collectible is defined by rarity (limited print run of 500–2,000, hand numbering, out of print). A deck can be both.
Can decks with gilded edges be used?
Yes, but the gilded finish wears off with use. If you buy one to keep, don't open it. If you want to actually use it, expect the edges to lose shine in months. Not recommended for intensive cardistry.
How much does a premium deck cost?
Typically €12–25 per deck. Above €25 you're entering limited editions and collectible decks that can reach hundreds of euros if the edition is in demand or already out of print.
Do you bundle premium deck packs?
Yes. During Christmas, Father's Day, Three Kings, Black Friday, etc., we put together discounted packs. Subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to hear.
Does a premium deck hold up to cardistry?
Those printed by USPCC with magic finish or cardistry stock (most Theory11) yes. Those with very crafted finishes (gilded edges, heavy foiling) are more for collection and occasional use. Ask about a specific deck if in doubt.
Do they come in a gift box or just the tuck box?
The tuck box of a premium deck is already a design piece — gift-ready. If you want extra wrapping, mention it in the order notes and we'll prepare it at no charge.
If rarity is your thing, don't miss the collectible decks with numbered runs. Looking for quality just for play? See our professional poker decks.
