Description
The Beetle Backs is a deck project with an early 20th-century aesthetic, designed by the studio Widakk Design and presented by The Gentleman Wake after around two years of development. It was released in six editions (Crimson, Cobalt, Prestige, Dynastinae, Prism and Legacy); Crimson is one of the two standard editions, the red one.

Design
The back follows a classic symmetrical, mirrored layout, so it looks the same either way up, and is printed in a rich colour. Both the back and the faces use Pantone metallic inks (pigmented inks that give a soft sheen). The project comes with a short Kafkaesque story about an entomologist obsessed with beetles of the subfamily Dynastinae, hence the name of the deck and of one of its editions.
Manufacturing
The cards are printed on 310 g/m² card stock. The tuck box features embossing and up to three layers of foil (metallic stamping).
