The Tribute is the beginner kendama from Kendama USA, one of the most established brands outside Japan. This version has a very eye-catching fluorescent orange paint on a standard-size kendama made from beech wood.

How it’s made

A kendama has three parts: the ken (the handle with the spike), the sarado (the crosspiece with the two side cups) and the tama (the ball with a hole). On the Tribute the ken is slightly thicker towards the middle to distribute the weight better, and the handle is bevelled so the string rubs less, without the need for protectors. The string can be fitted on the left or right, so it works for both left- and right-handed players. The beech comes from FSC-certified forests.

What level is it for?

The Tribute is considered a good first kendama: standard dimensions and a simple, sturdy build for learning the basic tricks, from catching the ball in the cups to landing it on the spike. The fluorescent colour makes it easier to follow the ball with your eyes, which is useful when learning balance tricks.
