Description

The QiYi Six Pieces belongs to the Kong Ming Lock series and is one of the most recognisable variants of the classic burr puzzle: six elongated pieces that cross each other forming an apparently simple three-dimensional figure, but whose secret lies in the exact order of assembly. It is probably one of the mechanical puzzles with the most tradition in Chinese popular culture.

To solve it you have to separate the pieces one by one, observe how they have been fitted together and find the reverse sequence to return to the original state. It usually starts as an intuition exercise and ends up becoming a small study of practical geometry. Its difficulty sits at an accessible level, suitable for someone who has never touched a burr puzzle and wants to understand its logic without getting frustrated on the first try.

QiYi takes care of the moulding as with the rest of the series. The pieces fit with precision, without dancing inside the set and without requiring force to disassemble them. The transparent orange finish combined with brown lets you partially see the internal cuts, something that helps understand the mechanism the first time it is opened. That transparency also gives it a different aesthetic touch compared to classic wooden burr puzzles.

It is a good choice both as a gift and to have a discreet puzzle on the table that you can pick up and take apart when you want to clear your head for a few minutes. Being a standard model of the burr family, it also serves as a base for those who later want to move to more complicated variants within the same Kong Ming Lock line.

As a usage trick, it is convenient to disassemble it on a flat surface and place the pieces in the order they come out. That small visual record greatly speeds up the assembly learning. After a couple of attempts, most people can rebuild it without help, turning the process into a short and rewarding exercise that can be repeated at any free moment.
