The Blockade lives up to its name: it is an assembly puzzle in QiYi’s Kong Ming Lock series in which each piece blocks the others and the whole thing looks sealed shut. QiYi, the Chinese brand best known for its speedcubes, includes it in its line of locks from the Chinese tradition.

What is a Luban lock?
Luban locks, also known as Kong Ming locks, are the Chinese version of burr puzzles: puzzles made of notched pieces that hold one another together without glue or screws. Tradition credits their origin to the carpenter Lu Ban or to the strategist Zhuge Liang, known as Kongming. Unlike a Rubik’s cube, nothing turns here: the pieces slide and come apart.
How it works
The structure holds together purely through the geometry of its joints, with no screws, magnets or glue, and only a specific sequence of moves will open it. Taking it apart is an exercise in observation; putting it back together is one of memory and spatial reasoning, because you have to understand how each piece rests on the others.
