Austin Donovan is a New York player known for taking kendama to music festivals around the world, and Sweets Kendamas has given him his own model for years. This edition moves his kendama onto the Broken Shape, the brand’s most recent shape.

Design

Austin’s model has gone through several Sweets shapes: BOOST, Amped, G Shape, Legend and now Broken. This latest one was designed in 2025 by pro player Josh Kim, with slightly larger cups, stall points and tama. On a kendama, the ken is the handle with the spike, the sarado the piece with the side cups and the tama the ball. Here the spike is maple with a vertical stripe of purpleheart, a wood with a natural purple tone, and the sarado combines maple at the bottom, the same stripe and beech on top.

Finish

The tama, which combines cherry and beech in a 70/30 ratio, has Anti-Skid 2.0: a matte clear lacquer that gives good grip in balance tricks and leaves more room to correct the ball’s position than sticky paints. Sweets highlights its durability. Part of every sale goes directly to the player.
