Description
Hops & Barley is a deck by Jocu Playing Cards inspired by old brewing methods. It came out in 2020 in two versions, Deep Amber Ale and Pale Gold Pilsner; this is the amber one. Its most unusual feature is the tuck box, whose paper is made from leftovers of the brewing process.

Design
The design is by illustrator Alessandra Gagliano. It is a classic-looking deck with all 55 cards customised; the Ace of each edition shows its beer served in a different type of glass, and an alternative Ace of Spades is included. The tuck box, vintage in style with a matte finish, has opaque foil (metallic stamping) details.
Manufacturing
The cards were printed by Cartamundi, in Belgium, on B9 Slimline card stock (slightly thinner than standard) with a linen finish, a texture of fine lines that helps the cards glide. The tuck box was made in Italy from paper made with leftover hops, barley and yeast, together with recycled beer mats and labels.
