Hyakki Yagyo, the night parade of one hundred demons, is a Japanese legend in which a procession of yokai (supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore) roams the streets at night. Bloom, a small Tokyo brand specialising in Japanese-themed decks, turned it into a series of decks printed by Room One Cards, and Yokai Realm is its full-colour edition.

Design

The design is fully custom. The number cards are transformation cards that, laid out in order, form a single horizontal scroll showing the demon parade, and the deck also includes puzzle cards. The back is designed as an animation card: when you riffle through the cards quickly, eyes seem to blink behind shoji doors, the sliding paper panels of Japanese architecture. The tuck box features embossing, foil (a metallic film applied with heat) and illustrations on its inner side, and comes with an additional red shoji sleeve, with cut-out holes and the yokai parade in colour.

Manufacturing

It is printed by Room One Cards on its 270 g SLEIGHT paper with a velvety finish. The card edges are gilded in red, that is, coated with a red metallic film. It is part of the Room One Collection System, a collecting programme run by the printer that distributes collector cards across its decks.
