Freyja is part of Walhalla, a collection of decks from Noir Arts devoted to Norse mythology. The project began with two editions, Odin and Freyja, later joined by a third, Valkyries. Freyja is the darker and more understated of the first two.

Theme

Walhalla is the German form of Valhalla, the great hall of Asgard where Odin received warriors fallen in battle. Freyja, a goddess associated with love and war, had, according to the myths, her own hall, Fólkvangr, where the other half of the fallen went. The deck travels through the family tree of Norse gods and figures.

Design

The illustrations are by Julien Riesen. The court cards follow a symmetrical composition reminiscent of traditional decks, but are fully customised with gods and goddesses. The number cards keep the pips clearly visible so you can play normally. Everything is printed in silver and gold metallic inks on a black background, with spot varnish highlighting parts of the artwork.

The tuck box is made of soft-touch black card stock, with embossing, burgundy red foil (metallic stamping) inside and out, and custom seals.
