What it is like
Kendama USA makes its strings from a tough nylon blend that is not prone to tangling and has a slight stretch. It measures 53 cm, the brand’s standard length: once fitted, it leaves about 4–5 fingers between the base cup and the bead. The tips are stiffened so they pass through the ken (the handle) and the sarado (the piece with the side cups) without fraying. The bead is knotted at the end and stops the string from slipping out of the hole.
When to change it
The string is the part of a kendama that wears the most. It is also changed to move it to the other side of the ken, for example when setting up the kendama for a left-handed player.
