The Obey Collage Edition is one of the three decks theory11 dedicated to the work of Shepard Fairey, the American artist who created the Obey brand and made his name in street art with a style that borrows the language of propaganda. The three editions (Red, Collage and Gold) represent different stages of his work and are sold separately. This one stands out for a back built as a collage.

Design

The back layers fragments of Fairey's work, a collage technique the artist has used throughout his career. Each edition in the collection has its own back and its own tuck box; the faces, on the other hand, are common to all three and adapt illustrations from some three decades of Obey art to the court cards and the joker. The underlying themes are Fairey's usual ones: power, control and propaganda. The tuck box is worked with several layers of foil (metallic stamping) and sculpted embossing, that is, raised areas at different heights.

Manufacturing

The cards are made in the United States and the paper is FSC-certified, which confirms it comes from sustainably managed forests. It is not their first collaboration: theory11 had already worked with Fairey's team some twelve years earlier on the Rebels deck.
