Plum Pi opens the Pi Slice series, a project by Jackson Robinson, the designer behind Kings Wild Project, which plays on the double meaning of “pi”: the mathematical constant and, in English, the baked pie. Each deck in the series takes on a different “flavour”, and this one is plum. It has been announced as a series of eight decks.

Design

The back is made up of concentric circular lines that create an almost hypnotic effect, in a vivid colour range repeated in the court cards, the jokers and the Ace of Spades, all custom designed. The colour is meant to make the deck stand out in motion, which is especially noticeable in cardistry (the art of creating eye-catching shapes and moves with cards). The tuck box is minimalist, printed in letterpress (relief printing by pressure, which leaves the design slightly debossed into the paper) by Clove St. Press, and closes with a holographic seal.

Manufacturing

It is printed by the United States Playing Card Company on standard stock with an Air Cushion finish, a very fine embossing that helps the cards glide and separate easily.
