Design

The whole Chicken Nugget saga is a humorous tribute to the Jerry's Nugget, the decks from the Jerry's Nugget casino in Las Vegas, now collector’s pieces. The first parody, from 2012, reproduced their colours, Ace of Spades, tax stamp and joker, while the court cards were shown eating doughnuts, popcorn and other fast food. For the “Vintage” version, Hanson Chien sought out the oldest edition of the Jerry's, printed by Arrco Playing Card Company (which the United States Playing Card Company bought in 1987), authenticated an original copy and used it as his model. The result combines a traditional base with the retro feel of a vintage casino deck, here in a light blue shade.

Manufacturing

A specific card stock was developed for this series, called “Vintage”, thinner than usual, with the aim of coming close to the feel of those old decks and being comfortable for cardists and magicians. The collection was crowdfunded in 2020: the main editions were the blue and the green, and the black, sky blue, dark red and green foil were added as stretch goals of the campaign.
