IQ Arrows is a pocket-sized logic game for one player, of the kind popularised by the Belgian publisher SmartGames with its IQ series. It is played on a compact board with a clear lid, onto which you place pieces of different shapes, each marked with coloured arrows. The aim is not just to fill the board but to get the arrows pointing in the direction each challenge asks for.

How it works

Each challenge sets a starting position and an orientation for the arrows. The clever part is that when you rotate a piece to make it fit, you also change where its arrows point, so every decision affects both shape and direction at once. You have to think on two levels at the same time, which sets it apart from ordinary fitting puzzles.

What level is it for?

The first challenges take only a few moves and help you understand the mechanics; the last ones require planning several moves ahead. The box recommends it from age 7, and the higher levels tend to test adults too. When you close the lid the pieces stay inside, so you can take it on a trip without losing anything.
