The Mastermorphix is a classic shape mod: a 3x3 mechanism enclosed in a tetrahedron with domed faces. The MeiLong version from MoYu, sold under its sub-brand MoFang JiaoShi (MFJS), is stickerless and uses four colours, one for each face of the pyramid.

How it works

It turns exactly like a 3x3, but its pieces have very different shapes and sizes, so the pyramid changes shape completely when scrambled. As there are only four colours, several pieces look alike and you also have to recognise them by their shape. What’s more, the centres, whose rotation can’t be seen on a normal 3x3, have a visible orientation here that needs to be corrected.

Design

It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself), with bright colours and, according to several users, a matte texture. It comes lubricated from the factory and is lightweight, so it’s easy to handle despite its shape.

Which level

It suits anyone who can already solve the 3x3 comfortably and wants a recognition challenge without changing mechanism. It’s one of the best-known shape mods and is often one of the first in a collection.
