The QiYi Warrior 2x2 is the non-magnetic version of the 2x2 in the Warrior series, QiYi’s budget range. It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic) and is designed as a first two-layer cube for beginners.

How it works

A 2x2 has two layers per axis and eight pieces, all corners. It’s solved in just a few moves and you can learn a basic method in a short time, which is why it’s often recommended as a gateway to cubing or as a step before, or alongside, the 3x3. With no magnets, turning is free: the layers don’t “snap” into position on their own, so it’s worth getting used to finishing each turn precisely. As with all 2x2s, you shouldn’t force a corner to twist on itself.

Within the Warrior series

Besides this model, the family includes a magnetic version (Warrior 2x2 M), another magnetic one with a UV coating, and a version with stickers on black plastic (Sail 2x2). Magnets help align the layers and tend to be appreciated once you start chasing speed; for learning, the non-magnetic model is all you need.

What level is it for?

It suits beginners, children getting started with cubes, workshops and clubs that need several units, and it works as a spare cube to carry in your backpack.
