RS3M V5: MoYu's lightweight 3x3

The MoYu RS3M V5 is the fifth iteration of one of MoYu's best-known series in the accessible range. This version keeps the accumulated improvements from the RS3M V4 and adds a clear goal: reduce weight as much as possible without compromising behavior. The result is a cube that doesn't reach 65 grams and feels fast in hand right away.

Why a lightweight cube

A lightweight cube has two obvious advantages. First, it tires the hand less during long sessions, which is appreciated when practicing a lot. Second, it allows fast turns with less effort, translating into more homogeneous times and less fatigue in long F2L sequences. The trade-off is that a very low weight can convey a somewhat more "airy" feel, but MoYu has kept the balance so it remains stable.

Magnetic system

Magnets come factory-installed and help align layers at the end of each turn. This help conveys a "click" feel that makes fast algorithm execution more comfortable, especially on OLL and PLL. The combination of lightness and magnetism is this version's signature.

How it performs

The RS3M V5 is a reference within the budget-friendly segment. Its relationship between price, lightness and speed makes it a recurrent recommendation for those starting to take speedcubing seriously without wanting to spend on a flagship. It doesn't compete with WeiLong V11's high end or GAN's V100, but it delivers with very good marks within its range.

Usage notes

The cube allows tension adjustment. If the light weight translates into a feel that's too "loose" at first, tension can be tightened a bit until you find a comfortable point.
