QiYi’s Void Cube is a 3x3 with its six centre pieces removed: in their place is a hole that runs right through the cube on all three axes. It keeps the edges and corners of a normal 3x3, but that absence changes how it’s solved. This version is magnetic and stickerless.

How it works

On a normal 3x3, the centres set the colour of each face. On the Void there are none, so you have to work out which colour belongs on each side from the edges and corners as you solve it. What’s more, as there are no centres to reveal the turning of the middle layers, a parity case can appear that doesn’t occur on a conventional 3x3 and requires an extra algorithm.

Design

The magnets in the edges and corners pull the pieces as they approach the aligned position, so each layer tends to stop in place. It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself), with a surface without UV coating; QiYi sells a version with that glossy coating separately. The hole in the middle gives it a very recognisable look.
