The MoYu RS3 M V5 is the fifth generation of the RS3 M, MoYu’s budget magnetic 3x3 (also sold under its sub-brand MoFang JiaoShi). This is the dual spring adjustment version, and it comes inside the Robot Display Box, a robot-shaped box designed for storing and displaying the cube.

How it works

The cube’s 48 magnets are factory-fitted: they attract the pieces so that each layer stops in alignment at the end of a turn, giving a more controlled feel than a non-magnetic cube. The dual adjustment system lets you change the compression of the core springs across 9 settings, in other words adjust the tension (how tightly the layers are held together) without taking pieces apart. A firmer setup usually gives more stability; a looser one, faster turning and a little more corner cutting (the ability to turn even when the layers aren’t perfectly aligned).

Design and presentation

The cube is stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself) with a matt surface. It measures 55.5 mm, the standard size for a 3x3, and weighs around 67 g, barely two grams more than the version without adjustment. The Robot Display Box isn’t just packaging: the box takes the form of a robot and acts as a stand to keep the cube on show when it’s not in use.

What level is it for?

It’s often recommended for anyone starting out with magnetic cubes who wants to be able to tailor the feel to their hand without special tools. The box also makes it a popular choice as a gift.
