Memento Mori: Genesis is the version that Adrian Valenzuela, creator of the original Memento Mori design, made of his own deck. It began as a personal challenge: to remake the brand using only 3D modelling software. The low poly skull (made up of flat polygons, like a digital model with few faces) becomes here a fully rendered three-dimensional object.

Design

In previous versions, each polygon was drawn in its own colour. In Genesis the polygons are made of glass, and the colour comes from a photorealistically simulated light source that splits into a wide range of hues. Memento mori is the Latin expression for “remember that you will die”, and this edition adds the idea of not forgetting one's own origins. In addition to the 52 cards and two jokers, it includes a card with the edition's name.

Manufacturing

It was made by the United States Playing Card Company for Murphy's Magic. There is also a limited edition with holographic gold gilded edges (the edges of the deck coated with a metallic finish), of 500 numbered units, which is different from this one.
