Tally-Ho is an American playing card brand created in 1885 by the printer Andrew Dougherty, which passed to the United States Playing Card Company (USPCC) when the latter bought his firm in 1907. Today it is made with two backs, Circle and Fan; this is the Fan version in red.

Design

The Fan back is made up of a mesh of fine lines arranged in circles, surrounded by a white border. When the deck is spread in a fan or moved, those lines create a very striking optical effect, which is why it is a back valued in cardistry (the art of creating eye-catching displays and moves with cards) and has served as the basis for many custom decks. Neither the Fan nor the Circle back was part of the original deck: they came later, after several earlier designs. The brand’s name comes from the fox-hunting cry, and the joker shows precisely a huntsman in his riding attire.

Manufacturing

It is made by USPCC in poker size. For this brand the company keeps the Linoid finish name, which comes from a coating Dougherty patented in his day to make the cards slide better. It is often described as a thin deck that glides easily.
