Artisan is one of theory11’s best-known decks. It was designed by Simon Frouws, who illustrated it by hand in South Africa, and it is instantly recognisable by its contrast: gold details on black-backed cards. It is a deck with a classic, ornate look that has been very well received by enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Design

The whole design revolves around black and gold. The tuck box features gold hot foil stamping (a metallic film fixed with heat and pressure) on fine-feel black paper. Inside, the cards follow the same line of fine, handcrafted-looking ornaments that give the deck its name. The tuck box is closed with a red seal in the style of old tax stamps, showing the month and year of printing.

Manufacturing

It is made by the United States Playing Card Company with FSC-certified paper (from sustainably managed forests), vegetable-based inks and starch-based laminates. The result is a durable finish with a lower environmental impact.
