Citizen is a deck from theory11, the American publisher known for its design-led decks, illustrated entirely by Kevin Cantrell. As the designer himself explained, the brief was a deck with an opulent feel inspired by the aesthetics of paper money, and this shows in the profusion of filigree and fine detail.

Design

Every element is hand-drawn. The back and the joker carry the Latin motto “Audentes Fortuna Iuvat”, usually translated as “fortune favours the bold”, and the Ace of Spades bears a “C” as the deck’s emblem. For the first time at theory11, the box combines gold foil and bronze foil (metallic stamping) with hot stamping, and the inside is printed with a guilloché motif, the pattern of fine interlaced lines used on banknotes and official documents.

Manufacturing

It is made in the USA by the United States Playing Card Company on FSC-certified paper, which certifies that it comes from sustainably managed forests.
