How it works

The Pyraminx, devised and patented by Uwe Mèffert in the early 1980s, is a tetrahedron with three layers per axis, four tips, four axial pieces beneath them and six edges; it has no centres. The tips turn separately and the rest of the puzzle moves in layers around four axes. It’s one of the official events of the WCA, the association that organises speedcubing competitions, and one of the puzzles most people start with beyond the 3x3 cube.

Design

The manufacturer describes a closed internal structure and wide, rounded corners that make turning easier. The raised carbon-fibre stickers give it a different look and a little grip; on the other hand, as they are stickers, they can wear with heavy use, which doesn’t happen with a stickerless finish (with the colour in the plastic itself).
