The GAN Skewb M is GAN’s magnetic Skewb and was the first of its kind with adjustable tension and spring compression. It measures 56 mm, it’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself) and it has magnets that help align the layers.

How it works

Although it’s cube-shaped, the Skewb doesn’t turn by faces: it turns around four axes that run through opposite corners, and each turn moves half the puzzle (four corners and three centres). It has eight corners and six centres. In this model, the magnets placed between the core and the corners pull the pieces so that each turn ends in place, giving a more controlled feel than a non-magnetic Skewb.

Adjustments

GAN lets you adjust the tension (how tightly the layers are held) and the spring compression separately, with several positions for each. This means you can go from a firm, stable turn to a looser, faster one. Users praise the turning and the strength of the magnets; some point out that, with very loose settings, it can come apart (pop).

Which level

The Skewb is an official WCA event and one of the first puzzles people learn after the 3x3. This model suits anyone who already practises the event and wants a magnetic Skewb that can be adapted to their turning style.
