This 4x4 from SengSo, the brand under which ShengShou sells part of its range, takes the mirror cube idea to four layers. ShengShou presented it as the first mass-produced 4x4 mirror cube. The body is black plastic and the faces carry metallic stickers, in silver or gold depending on the version.

How it works

All the faces are the same colour and the pieces differ in thickness. When you scramble it, the cube becomes an irregular figure, and solving it means restoring its cube shape. With four layers there are more pieces of similar sizes than on the 3x3 mirror, and the phases specific to the 4x4 come into play, such as edge pairing, which makes solving it longer and more complicated.

Design

It measures 67.5 mm, more than a typical 4x4, because pieces of different thicknesses require a larger body; at about 145 g it feels substantial in the hand. It has no magnets, and the shape of its pieces makes them hard to add.

What level it suits

You need to be able to solve a normal 4x4 and, ideally, to have already tried the 3x3 mirror.
