The MeiLong 4x4 M is MoYu’s budget magnetic 4x4, sold under its sub-brand MoFang JiaoShi (MFJS). It came out in 2020 and is still one of the most widespread entry-level 4x4s. This version comes in the Robot Display Box, a robot-shaped box that doubles as a stand for displaying the cube.

What magnets bring to a 4x4

The 4x4 has no fixed centres and is usually solved by reduction: first the centres are grouped, then the edges are paired and finally it is solved as a 3x3. That process involves frequent inner-layer turns, and the magnets help each layer settle into alignment at the end of the turn, which cuts down on lock-ups and corrections. The tension (how tightly the layers are held) is adjusted with the screws in the core.

Design and presentation

The cube is stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself), with a matte surface. It measures 59 mm, slightly smaller than the usual 60 mm for a 4x4, and weighs about 112 g. The robot box is more than packaging: it is shaped like a robot and works as a display stand when the cube is not in use.

It suits anyone who can already solve the 3x3 and wants their first magnetic 4x4, and its presentation also makes it a good gift for enthusiasts.
