The GAN V100 Leap is the variant in GAN’s V100 series that drops MagLev and goes back to spring tension, using the brand’s GES system. It keeps the series’ compact format, 55 mm and around 62–64 g, the positioning magnets and a frosted finish, matt and satiny.

How it works

The 64 magnets between pieces make the layers align at the end of a turn. According to specialist retailers, the core is designed so that the layer settles back into place on its own from around 35 degrees of misalignment, and a spherical support track holds the pieces in all directions for stability. Tension is provided by springs, which gives a slightly firmer, more tactile feel than MagLev. Like the rest of the series, it offers 72 setup combinations with the included tool; when changing the compression it’s best not to push down, as this can alter the travel of the centre.

Finish

It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic). The frosted finish leaves a matt feel that doesn’t slip with dry fingers and barely shows fingerprints.

What level is it for?

It suits anyone who already solves fluently and prefers the feel of springs to magnetic levitation, or who wants a more affordable V100 than the MagLev version.
