The YJ MGC 6x6 is the magnetic 6x6 in the MGC series from YJ (YongJun), the line through which the brand offers cubes with factory-fitted magnets at a mid-range level. It came out at the end of 2019 and has remained one of the magnetic 6x6 options with the best balance between cost and performance.

How it works

The magnets are fitted at the factory and pull the pieces in when a layer approaches the aligned position, which reduces overshot turns. YJ has calibrated them to a medium strength: enough to give stability on a six-layer cube without slowing the turning too much. Retailers highlight that it turns smoothly right out of the box.

Design

At about 65 mm it is considered a standard size for a 6x6. It is stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself) and, at about 175 g, it is heavier than some more compact recent 6x6s; some people notice this in long sessions, while others prefer that solid feel.

What level it suits

It is usually recommended for anyone who can already solve the 5x5 and wants their first magnetic 6x6, and for anyone who practises the format regularly without wanting to pay for a high-end model.
