The Obey Gold Edition is part of the collection theory11 published with Shepard Fairey, the American artist behind the Obey brand, whose work stems from street art and plays with the aesthetics of propaganda. The collection has three editions (Red, Collage and Gold) that represent different stages of his work and are sold separately. The Gold is the most restrained in colour and is recognisable by the prominence of gold.

Design

The back combines a dark, minimalist background with a large gold foil motif (metallic stamping) that covers almost the entire card. The faces are common to the three editions and adapt illustrations from some three decades of Obey art to the court cards and the joker. As in the rest of Fairey's work, power, its abuses, control and propaganda appear as a backdrop. The tuck box repeats the treatment with several layers of foil and sculpted embossing, that is, raised areas at different heights.

Manufacturing

The cards are made in the United States. theory11 had already collaborated with Fairey's team some twelve years earlier on the Rebels deck, and this collection resumes that relationship.
