The Master Pyraminx is the Pyraminx taken to four layers: each face goes from 9 to 16 triangles, and pieces appear that the classic pyramid doesn’t have. This is the ShengShou (also SengSo) version, with a black body and stickers.

How it works

The four tips and the axial pieces beneath them keep their position and only rotate on their own axis. The centres, one per face, also stay fixed in place and only rotate. What changes compared with the three-layer Pyraminx are the edges: there are 6 inner and 12 outer edges, and the outer ones have to be grouped in pairs, an idea similar to the edges of a 4x4. The mechanism is derived from the Skewb Diamond.

Design

ShengShou makes it with a black body and stickers in its usual shades, and it comes lubricated from the factory. It weighs about 106 g. It isn’t magnetic: aligning the layers depends on the hand turning it.

Which level

It’s the next step for anyone who can already solve the Pyraminx comfortably and knows, even roughly, the logic of big cubes. It’s an intermediate-level challenge and also tends to appeal to collectors of pyramid variants.
