The Warrior Pyraminx M is the magnetic version of QiYi’s simplest Pyraminx. It keeps the budget approach of the Warrior range and adds magnets so that the layers settle into place on their own at the end of each turn.

How it works

The Pyraminx, devised and patented by Uwe Mèffert in the early 1980s, is a tetrahedron with three layers per axis, four tips, four axial pieces beneath them and six edges; it has no centres. In this model, 44 magnets spread between the edges and corners pull the pieces so that each layer stops in alignment, with a small click. The corners are wide and rounded, which helps it turn even when the layers aren’t fully aligned (corner cutting). The tension is adjusted with a screw, a simple system that’s less precise than the dual adjustments of high-end models.

Design

It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself) and has a matte (frosted) surface, with some grip and resistant to scratches and fingerprints. It measures 96 mm per side and weighs about 76 g without packaging. It comes with a short beginner’s tutorial.

Which level

It works as a first magnetic Pyraminx for beginners or for those coming from a non-magnetic one, and as an everyday or spare pyramid for those who already practise the event, which is official in the WCA.
