The MeiLong 8x8 V3 is the third generation of the 8x8 in MoYu’s MeiLong range, sold under its sub-brand MoFang JiaoShi (MFJS). At 65.5 mm per side, it’s 3.5 mm smaller than previous versions. This is the non-magnetic version.

Design

It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself), with a matte surface that reduces glare and makes it easier to tell the colours apart during long solves. MoYu has revised the internal mechanism so that turning is lighter and more stable across all eight layers, and the tension (how tightly the layers are held) is adjusted with screws.

No magnets

This version has no magnets, so the layers don’t settle into place on their own at the end of each turn and you need to align them carefully, especially the inner layers. There’s also a heavier magnetic variant with 208 magnets and an 8-magnet ball-core.

Which level

The 8x8 isn’t an official WCA event and is solved by reduction, like big cubes in general. It suits anyone who can already handle the 6x6 or 7x7 and wants to keep moving up in size with a compact cube.
