Description
The QiYi Gear Barrel, also called the Gear Cylinder, is a shape modification of the Gear Cube: it keeps the gear mechanism, but the body is cylindrical. It carries coloured plastic tiles instead of stickers.

How it works
When you turn an outer face, the gears also turn the middle layer, at a different speed, so each turn moves more pieces than you would expect on a 3x3. In terms of mechanism it is practically the same puzzle as the Gear Cube; what changes is the shape: without cube corners, getting your bearings takes a little more effort and it is solved in a slightly different way.
Materials
The tiles are fitted pieces of coloured plastic, more durable than the narrow stickers that tend to peel off this kind of puzzle. It turns smoothly and is robustly built.

It is an accessible challenge for anyone who can already solve the 3x3 or knows the Gear Cube and wants a different variant.
