The QiYi Warrior S is the basic 3x3 from QiYi (also known as MoFangGe): a revision of the Warrior W with an improved mechanism, designed for learning and practising with a simple cube. This Macaron edition keeps the same cube but replaces the range of bright colours with softer pastel shades.

How it works

It’s a non-magnetic 3x3: the layers don’t settle back into place on their own at the end of a turn, so precision is down to the hands of whoever’s using it. The tension (how tightly the layers are held together) is adjusted with the internal screws. User reviews agree that it’s a decent entry-level cube and that it benefits from a little lubricant when it dries out with use.

Design

It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself). The pastel palette changes the cube’s look without altering the six-colour scheme, although in low light some similar shades, such as blue and green, can be harder to tell apart. It measures 55.5 mm, the usual size for a 3x3.

What level is it for?

It works well as a first cube for learning the beginner’s method, as a cube for classes or group activities, or for anyone who wants a 3x3 with a different look to keep on display.
