Diansheng · Rubik's Cubes and Speedcubing
DianSheng is a twisty puzzle manufacturer. One of its lines is Mirror: shape-solving versions of puzzles such as the Skewb, the 4x4 or the 5x5. It also makes a magnetic FTO. In our shop you will find the DianSheng Mirror Skewb in three versions: purple, pink and magnetic transparent yellow.
What a Mirror Skewb is
The mirror idea comes from the original Mirror Cube, invented by Hidetoshi Takeji in 2006 under the name Bump Cube: a 3x3 with all pieces in the same colour and layers of different thickness, so that each piece has a unique shape. When you scramble it, it loses its cube shape, and you solve it by restoring that shape.
DianSheng applies that idea to the Skewb. The Skewb turns around its corners, diagonally, instead of by faces, and it is an official WCA event. In the Mirror version all faces are the same colour and the pieces have different heights, so you have to go by shape. If you can already solve a normal Skewb, the method is the same; the hard part is recognising the pieces.
Besides the Skewb, DianSheng has magnetic mirror versions of bigger cubes, such as the 4x4 or the 5x5, where recognising the pieces by size gets harder with every layer.
Which Mirror Skewb to choose
Without magnets
Recommended: Mirror Skewb purple, Mirror Skewb pink
The basic version, in coloured plastic. Good for discovering the puzzle or as a gift for someone who can already solve the Skewb.
Magnetic
Recommended: Mirror Skewb magnetic transparent yellow
With magnets that help the pieces line up as you turn. About 64 g and translucent plastic.
If you are not familiar with the Skewb yet, start with a normal one from the Skewb category. You will find other mirror puzzles on the ShengShou and QiYi pages, and more shape puzzles in unusual cubes and shape mods.
DianSheng FAQ
Can the Mirror Skewb be used in competition?
No. The official event uses the normal, coloured Skewb. The Mirror is a variant for practising and collecting.
Is it very hard?
If you can solve the Skewb, not much harder: the challenge is recognising the pieces by their height. If you have never touched a Skewb, it is better to start with a coloured one. There is an overview of the different puzzles in types of Rubik's Cubes.
What FTO does DianSheng make?
DianSheng makes a magnetic FTO, the octahedron that the WCA announced in June 2026 as an official event from January 2027. If you want to get familiar with the octahedron, there is the SengSo 2x2 FTO, its two-layer version.
Does it make a good gift?
For someone who already solves cubes, yes: it is different and eye-catching. More ideas in which Rubik's Cube to give and in Rubik's Cubes and speedcubing.
