The Sons of Liberty Patriot Red is the red version of a deck dedicated to the Sons of Liberty, the organisation that opposed British rule in the North American colonies before the independence of the United States. Specialist shops attribute it to Dan and Dave Buck, and this edition revives the original design in a new colourway.

Design

The whole deck is woven with Masonic symbolism, the Liberty Tree and other hidden images related to that movement. The court cards portray some of the group’s most prominent members, drawn in imitation of 18th-century engravings, and the Ace of Spades is dedicated to the Liberty Tree, the meeting place that became a symbol of the cause. The faces are a custom design, not those of a standard deck.

Manufacturing

It is printed by the United States Playing Card Company (USPCC) on stock that goes through its crushing process (known as crushed), which makes the cards slightly thinner and lighter and lets them shuffle smoothly.
