The Clock 5x5 M is the large variant in ShengShou’s (SengSo) series of magnetic clocks. It has eleven dials and five pins per side, with five wheels on the edge, compared with the nine clocks and four pins of the classic Clock. Some retailers sell it as the Pentagram Magnetic Clock.

How it works

The principle is the same as on any Clock: the raised or lowered pins determine which clocks turn together when a wheel is moved, and you have to get all the hands to twelve on both sides. With five pins and five wheels the number of possible combinations increases, so solving it takes more steps and more attention than the nine-clock Clock. The magnets mark each hour position with a click.

What level it suits

It is not a WCA event; the WCA only recognises the nine-clock Clock. It suits anyone who can already solve the standard Clock and wants a more demanding variant, or anyone collecting ShengShou’s complete series, which also includes the six-clock version. Some users point out that the pins can jam if the dials are not properly aligned, so it is best to turn precisely.
