How it works

In the MagLev system, the springs in the core are replaced by magnets that repel each other, giving a light, even turn. The magnets between the corners and the core pull the corners towards the centre: they add stability and make the cube tend to align itself when a layer is about 40 degrees from its position. It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself) and the UV coating gives it a glossy, high-grip surface.

Adjustments

GAN presents the MAX as a highly configurable cube: by combining the tension (how tightly the layers are held) and the strength of the magnets, it offers 72 adjustment combinations. Elasticity is adjusted with the brand’s GES magnetic system. There’s also a MAX-L variant, slightly larger (57 mm) and heavier.

Which level

The 3x3 is the WCA’s main event. It suits anyone who already has experience and wants to tune the feel of the cube to their style; for beginners, so many settings may be more than they need.
