The QiYi Mini Pillowed 3x3 is a three-layer cube in keyring size, with edges of around 3 cm. Its pillowed shape (faces slightly domed rather than flat) gives it a rounded outline and means it reaches around 35 mm at its widest point. It’s a complete, working 3x3, designed to carry around with you.

Design

It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic), so there are no stickers to peel off from rubbing in your pocket or backpack. The domed faces soften the edges and help the layers turn despite the small size. The keyring clip is detachable: you can hang it up or leave the cube loose.

How it works

It turns and solves exactly like a normal 3x3, with the same methods and algorithms. What changes is the handling: you turn it with your fingertips and it has little tolerance for misaligned layers, so it’s best to turn precisely. Some users find it uncomfortable on the fingers during long sessions; it’s designed for short spells, not for timed solves.

What level is it for?

It suits anyone who already solves the 3x3 and wants to have one to hand at all times, collectors of mini cubes, and it makes a nice little gift. For learning to solve the cube, a standard-size one is more comfortable.
