Brisca: Spain's easiest card game explained
Brisca is the Spanish version of Italian briscola: three cards each, a trump suit, no obligation to follow suit, and the perfect first game for the whole family.
Brisca is the first card game millions of Spaniards learn: the Spanish version of Italian briscola, played with a 40-card Spanish deck. Each player holds three cards, a face-up card fixes the trump suit for the whole game, and — its defining freedom — there is no obligation to follow suit: you play whatever you like, save your trumps, and draw back to three after every trick. Aces are worth 11 points and threes 10; whoever passes 60 of the 120 points in play wins. Simple enough for a seven-year-old, subtle enough that grandmothers remain undefeated.
