Chinchón: the Spanish rummy game explained
Chinchón is Spain's rummy: seven cards, runs and sets, closing when your deadwood is low — a direct cousin of gin rummy played with the Spanish deck.
Chinchón is Spain's take on rummy: two to eight players, seven cards each, and the familiar rhythm of drawing and discarding to build runs and sets. When your unmatched cards are worth little enough you close the hand, everyone counts their deadwood against them, and players who cross the agreed limit are eliminated one by one — the last survivor wins. Closing with all seven cards in a single same-suit run is a «chinchón» and usually wins the whole game outright. The family tree is remarkable: it descends from Mexican conquián, documented in 1857 and considered the ancestor of all Western rummy games, and shares a grandfather with American gin rummy.
