The Secret Tale Black Knight is the standard edition of the deck dedicated to King Arthur, the first release in the Secret Tale series. It is published by Dutch Card House Company and Diamon Playing Cards, and its approach is narrative: the cards tell a hidden version of the Arthurian legend, presented as “Merlin's Confession”.

Design

The back shows a keyhole which, within the story, opens the cabinet where Merlin hid his confession; the same motif is repeated on the tuck box. The court cards are redrawn as characters from the Arthurian cycle, among them King Arthur, the Lady of the Lake, Merlin, Morgause and Lancelot. The pips on the number cards are also custom and, on some of them, do not follow the traditional layout. The Ace of Spades is part of the story and offers a glimpse of Camelot.

Editions

The design was released in two versions: this Black Knight, which is the standard, and the White Knight, a collector’s edition limited to 500 decks. The concept and storyline are by Jannieke van Geet, and the narration that accompanies the deck is by Elizabeth Romeril.
