The Skewb Mixup II is part of a series of three modified Skewbs that MoYu makes under its MFJS MeiLong line. It starts from the Skewb mechanism and adds small pieces to the centres that can be swapped with one another, so the puzzle reaches states that are impossible on a normal Skewb.

How it works

It turns like a Skewb: each move rotates half the puzzle around an axis that runs through two opposite corners. The difference lies in the centres. On the Mixup II each centre is split into pieces, and some of them can move from one centre to another after a partial, halfway turn. These moves change the shape of the puzzle and mix up pieces that always stay in place on the classic Skewb. Solving it means returning each fragment to its centre using Skewb moves.

Design

It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself) and has no magnets. The three versions in the series (I, II and III) share the same idea but change the design of the centres, so each one poses its own challenge. Some users mention that a piece may pop out with use; it can be put back by hand.
