The MFJS MeiLong Skewb Mixup II is a variant of the classic skewb that adds a conceptual twist to the original mechanism. Instead of having single-piece centres, each centre is divided into smaller pieces that can be swapped after a partial turn. The result is a puzzle that combines the usual skewb solve with jumbling: moves that change the outer shape of the cube.

How the mixup works

On a normal skewb, the four vertex turns rearrange the pieces while keeping the puzzle's cubic shape. On the Mixup II, the split centre pieces allow partial moves that break that symmetry. When these incomplete turns are made, the cube can adopt irregular shapes — it doesn't return to cubic shape until the centre pieces are correctly placed.

Difference between versions

The Mixup family includes several types with different degrees of centre division. The Type II has centres split into two halves ("split pieces"), which are what allow jumbling. Versions I and III also exist with different centre-piece configurations. The basic mechanic is the same across the family; what changes is the number of moving pieces and therefore the challenge complexity.
