The VIN Cube 4x4 V2 Apex is the top version of the second generation of the 4x4 from VIN Cube, a brand linked to YJ. It shares its size and weight with the Sprint and Surge versions, but it’s the one with the most magnets, with a system that includes magnets between the corners and the core.

• FinishStickerless with UV coating
• WeightAround 110 g (cube only)

How it works

The 160 magnets are split into three groups: 96 in the outer layers, 48 in the inner layers and 16 that pull the corners towards the core. These last ones, known as corner-core magnets, add stability and a “click” feel when the layers align, so the cube tends to settle into alignment by itself. It isn’t a ball-core cube (a spherical core with magnets): the effect is achieved with magnets in a conventional core.

Design

It’s stickerless (no stickers: the colour is in the plastic itself) with a UV coating, a glossy layer that adds grip and protects the surface. It measures 58 mm, slightly less than the usual 60 mm. It has an anti-pop design (to stop pieces jumping out when a turn is forced), “fishtail” pieces to prevent catching and widened outer layers. A carry bag and screwdriver are included.

What level is it for?

It suits anyone who practises the 4x4 regularly and wants a stable cube for bringing their times down or competing.
