Fingerboard: the pro skateboard for your fingers

Fingerboard is the miniature skateboard you ride with your index and middle fingers. What started as a 90s toy (the classic Tech Deck) is today a serious discipline with pro setups: 32 mm folded maple wood decks, trucks with real suspension, urethane wheels with bearings and ramps that replicate real spots (skateparks, plazas, stairs). At The Joker House you'll find the largest fingerboard selection in Spain, with over 70 models and all the pro brands in the sector.

Anatomy of a pro fingerboard setup

  • Deck: 32 mm wide, 5–7 layer folded maple wood, with concave and real kicktail, sanded with griptape. Brands like Blackriver, Bollie and Berlinwood lead.
  • Trucks: aluminum with screw kingpin and bushings that flex like a real-size skate. Change bushings, change the feel.
  • Wheels: urethane (not plastic) with bearings to roll free. Chicken Nuggets wheels are the reference.
  • Griptape: the wear part; replaced periodically. Different grit options.
  • Hardware: small hex screws to fix the trucks. Comes with specific screwdriver.

How to choose your first fingerboard

  1. Never touched one: start with a Tech Deck (€10–15) to test if it grabs you. Not pro quality but enough to land basic ollies and feel the motion.
  2. Already know you like it: jump straight to a Blackriver, Bollie or Yellowood complete. The difference is huge — real maple wood deck with concave, pro trucks with bushings, urethane wheels with bearings that actually roll.
  3. Already advanced: build your own setup combining deck, trucks, wheels and bushings from different brands. Each combo has a different feel.
  4. For gifting: a mid-range Blackriver complete (€35–50) is a winner. Will survive the entire learning curve and can be upgraded piece by piece later.

Basic tricks to start

Same as real skate, the first tricks are: ollie (jump with the board, no hands), kickflip (board flip in the air), shove-it (horizontal spin), manual (roll on two wheels), and grind on a ramp or ledge. FAQ about fingerboard

Is Tech Deck the same as a pro fingerboard?

No. Tech Deck is basic plastic/plywood, wheels without bearings and cheap trucks without real bushings. A pro fingerboard has real maple deck with concave, trucks with suspension that flex, and urethane wheels with bearings that actually roll.

What surface do you ride on?

Smooth table, wood, plexiglass. Ideal: smooth, hard and flat. On dedicated ramps and modules you can chain combos like in a real skatepark. There are full tabletop fingerboard parks to build.

How much does a decent complete setup cost?

A Blackriver or Bollie complete runs €35–55. Ramps and modules separate. For €100 you get a complete setup with several ramps and learn for years.

Are there fingerboard competitions?

Yes — global tournaments (Rendezvous in Berlin, Battle of the Boards, Asia Tour). In Spain there are sporadic regional meet-ups. The Spanish community is very active on Instagram.

What ages is it for?

From 7–8 years with supervision, but most adult fingerboarders are 16–35. It's actually a very adult hobby — top pros are in their 20s.
